In 1996, our Association will celebrate its' 5th anniversary.
During the last four years, we have achieved an enormous amount. Totally unknown at the beginning, we now have an official status and are invited with other associations to take part at various social and medical talks.
We have 500 members of which 350 are lupus sufferers and who have a subscription to our quarterly magazine "L.E." LIEN.
In October, we organised a conference on the neurological problems caused by lupus: the complications associated with the central nervous system (headache, depression, thrombosis..) and complications associated with the peripheral nervous system.
We have received a subsidy of 300 000 francs from the National Lottery and decided to add
200 000 francs, therefore giving a donation of 500 000 francs to research. Doctors in Belgian universities are carrying out research on lupus and are at present working with us.
We are presently preparing for our next meeting which will take place on the 16th March. The speaker this time will be a cosmetologist, who specialises in camouflaging skin problems, baldness etc...
Lecture and question time will be followed by a "Birthday Tea" to which we have invited the different specialists who have taken part in various quarterly meetings in the past.
Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday 25th May at the University of Liège.
Professor KAHN from l'Hôpital Bichat in Paris will be our guest; he will talk about LUPUS IN HISTORY AND LITERATURE.
