Report from Portugal to the 7th Annual Convention
We have now 760 members, 700 of these are patients.
The new offices are in full use. The furniture, machines,
curtains, etc. were given by benefactors. The two rooms for patients
or families have been often used.
The production of frozen food has been quite a success but
it is very difficult to do all the work only by volunteers.
The first number of our revue will transcribe the lectures
of the doctors who are coming to Lisbon now, and send them to
you.
We went to Oporto to have a meeting with the mayor of the
town, who was very kind and gave hope to us of a council place
to open an office there.
Some shops in Lisbon will make a discount of 5 to 10% to patients
with our card.
We go on talking in television, radios and newspapers about
Lupus, and also to hospitals and to a school outside Lisbon. Every
month reference to Lupus appears at least in a newspaper or magazine.
We had a very good advertising -free matches and sugar packages-
From 6th to the 8th of November we had our Christmas sale
at the "T-Club" and the results of money and also of
human contacts were worthwhile. The things not sold are going
to another Bazaar we will open the 2nd of December at a town near
Lisbon where the local council have given us a place to go, and
with medical lectures too.
Recognizing the work of our Association we have been invited
to take part at several days and an organized group of the National
Rehabilitation Secretary and they are giving us a small amount
of money avery year.
We had a stand at a big exposition (the International Fair
of Lisbon), named "Expo-Health"
Rita and I went to Jerusalem and it was wonderful to meet
people from all over the world.
Last but not least, all the volunteers and the Board of Directors,
specially Rita, worked hard but with joy to welcome you all, with
open arms and open hearts.
