Report from Norway

EVENTS

The Norwegian Rheumatic Society held a conference on collagen diseases in November 1996. The conference proved to be a great success.

Professor Ole Petter Rekdal who is participating in EUROLUPUS, held a meeting in April 1997, to inform the twenty Norwegian patients who have participated in the research, about the results so far.

Professor Hans-Jacob Haga has written a new booklet about lupus, which is now available from the NRF.

Jan Petter Korsedals’ book about his wife who died of lupus, is selling well. I have now translated the book into English and the manuscript has been sent to some publishers to see if they are interested. The English title is < < Her Big Heart > > .

Our lupus working group has arranged a course for the county groups which is to take place in September.

The working group has now compiled a list of all the doctors and nurses who are willing to give lectures on SLE.

The number of groups and number of members are the same as last year.

FUNDRAISING

We decided to introduce the idea of being able to suscribe to the medical articles that I have translated into Norwegian. The working group has a lot of work printing the articles, putting them into folders and posting them. We decided that we could charge 250 NOK for a subcription for the first year. This includes the folder and 16 articles. The subcription next year will be 200 NOK, which will include another 16 articles.

We have only advertised once and have already received orders for 100 subcriptions. The profit is to be used to increase knowledge about SLE.

NEW FUNDRAISING IDEAS

We have contaced an artist to get some ideas about making a profile on lupus.

Have fun out of the sun!

Best wishes to you all
